Wake Forest University is a private, coeducational institution in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It is one of the best universities in the nation, and ranks twenty-fifth in U.S. News and World Report’s 2011 list of Top National Universities. Wake Forest hosts a distinguished study-abroad program, and more than 60% of its students study abroad during their undergraduate years. Distinguishing Wake from many other similar universities is its generosity toward students: the school provides personal computers and color printer/scanner/copiers to all of its first-year students. The University is widely recognized for the scholastic achievement of its students; in fact, in the last 20 years, eleven Wake Forest students have been named Rhodes Scholars.
Wake Forest offers an exciting variety of on-campus resources such as art galleries, museums, a biomechanics laboratory, and a laser physics laboratory. Home to one of the more colorful university mascots–the Demon Deacons–the school’s athletic pride can be found across various Division I match-ups. In addition, the university’s Greek life is a large presence on campus, with almost half of the student body participating in either fraternities or sororities. The Campus is located just four miles from downtown Winston-Salem, a medium-sized city rich in arts, entertainment, and cultural activities.
